He specializes in wood. 25 Years Ago Warsaw's Chelsea Bishop blocked an attempted spike during Thursday's (Sept. 6) volleyball match against Northridge. Warsaw won the game 15-2, 15-10 to move their record to 13-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference. Warsaw, ranked 16th in this week's poll, entertains Columbia City Tuesday. Arnell Frantz, 7, second-grader at Jefferson Elementary School, has become one of the top BMX racers in his age group in the state. He placed second at Columbus, Ohio his first race and won at Memphis, Tenn. in his second race. He continues to develop his skills at Warsaw's Hire Park and other tracks, and has collected more than 40 trophies. 50 Years Ago The overhead crossing at Larwill is being demolished and a new steel structure is underway, and will be adjacent to the Larwill School. The old bridge has served the community for the past 133 years. The next oldest structure in town is the Wesleyan Methodist Church. Dean Rager is the new principal of Akron Elementary School. He has been principal of South Whitley High School for the past six years. A Cessna 185 airplane for missionary service in the Congo was dedicated Aug. 26 at the Wawasee Airport, north of Syracuse. 75 Years Ago Hill Lake (also known as Homman Lake), located in the southwest corner of Clay Township, two miles south of Claypool, has been selected as the site for the conservation camp sponsored by the Kosciusko County Conservation Clubs and vocational agriculture teachers. Each of the 27 clubs in the county will be allowed to send two boys, between the ages of 14 and 18, to the camp on August 5, 6 and 7. The cost has been set at $3.50 per boy. Camp directors will be Lester A. Ball, local game warden, and Emery Harrison, Mentone vocational teacher. Daily routine begins at 5 a.m. with a bird hike and ends at 9:30 p.m. with the playing of Taps.
