    Three local students have qualified as semifinalists for the 43rd annual National Merit Scholarship competition.

This year's semifinalist include Christopher Hemmig, North Manchester, a senior at Manchester High School; David Bradford, Bourbon, Triton High School; and Scott Davison, Warsaw, Warsaw Community High School.

September 18 1982

    R.R. Donnelley team No. 2 won the Industrial League Softball Tourney and finished undefeated in that event for the second year in a row. In the championship game, Donnelley defeated Zimmer No. 2 by a 20-7 score.

Members of the winning team are Don Faas, Scott Franklin, Larry Loe, Tim, Duane, Terry and Ron Ganshorn, Wade Frantz, Dave Carpenter, Jack Schopf, Bill Priser, Kurt Burner, Murr Graves, Al Denney and Dave Rudd.

    Wayne Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Miner, of Etna Green, was awarded a Scout second class badge for the new Etna Green Boy Scout Troop 16, at a recent picnic at the camping grounds.

Scoutmaster Eugene Walk said that 15 more boys would receive their second class badges by the end of October.

    The East Wayne baseball team defeated the West Wayne team in a one-sided game by a score of 14 to 0. The East Wayne line-up was F. Gilliam, T. Gilliam, Robbins, Howe, Biltz, Banghart, Goshorn, Sechrist, Sims, Barry, Gross and Bailey. West Wayne line-up, Arnold, Hauth, Shoemaker, Ellison, Hoover, Hudson, Cutter, Barfelt and Herman.
