    Barking orders is not among the duties of Winona Lake's newest police officer, but passersby are likely to hear Jack voicing displeasure at their being outside his squad car.

Jack, a 2-year-old German shepherd, comes to Winona Lake Police department from Czechoslovakia. He has been "on the street" for about six weeks after completing six weeks of training. Officer Chad Stevens admits that Jack isn't very sociable, but believes he is an asset to the department.

    Local businessman Douglas Gooch was sworn in as the new member of the Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners at an informal ceremony recently at City Hall.

Gooch succeeds Phil Lowe, who was the current board president, and a board member since he was appointed by former Mayor Paul E. (Mike) Hodges in 1981.

    Mr. and Mrs. Worth Anglin and Mr. and Mrs. George Rust and two children have come from Ocala, Fla., to visit relatives in Bourbon. The Anglins and Rusts formerly resided in Bourbon.

September 17 1934

    A larger-than-usual katydid, normal and active, but entirely of a beautiful clear pink color was found by Fred McKrill on his farm near Warsaw. The highly-colored bug was shown in a glass bottle in The Times office. McKrill lives some seven miles southwest of Warsaw.
