Two Warsaw Community High School students have been named National Merit Scholarship semifinalists. Pauline Campbell and David J. McDairmant were recently named by the National Merit Scholarship Corp. as semifinalists for 2002 Merit Scholarship competition.

Champions for the regular season and city tournament in women's league play are DePuy-Mayer. Team members are Robin Wynne, Nancy Denney, Linda Stouder, Cathy Sincroft, Donna Campana, Paula Sahagun, D.D. Copeland, Lynnette Lovelady, Ellen Sharkey, Karen Mayer, Cindy Knepper, Chanda Kline, Cathy Conrad, Carol Alderfer and coach Mark Neukam.

A very disgusted Bill Goshert, Warsaw High School football coach,  headed back to the bench after game officials ruled that a Warsaw touchdown in the waning seconds of the first half last night did not count. Darwin Call, Warsaw end, intercepted a blocked Huntington pass and ran for a touchdown but one of the officials said he "mistakenly blew his whistle" which automatically stopped play. It proved costly because Huntington scored a touchdown with 65 seconds left in the game for a 6-0 Central Conference decision at Fisher Field.

Reuben Williams defeated Jimmy Hartle 6-1; 6-4; 6-1 yesterday afternoon to win the Winona Lake Invitational singles tennis meet. The match, climax of the tourney which has been in progress for the past three weeks, was staged on the privately owned court of Homer Rodeheaver, Winona Lake. The winner was awarded a golden tennis trophy. Bernie Martin and Howard Timbers, winners of the doubles tourney, also were presented with silver tennis charms.
