10 Years Ago On June 18, 1975, the Kosciusko County Farmers Market started on the north side of the courthouse, according to Eleanor Holt, president, moving to the west edge of the county fairgrounds June 25, 1975, where it has remained since. Dennis and Barb Johnson brought produce from their 12-acre farm to the market on its second day of business 30 years ago. The Warsaw campus of Ivy Tech State College will hold a community open house Sept. 21. Visitors can tour the new science education center and meet the new dean, Jim Jovanovic. 25 Years Ago Frances Plevackova, 70, from Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, is on her first trip to this country. She is enjoying a long summer of adventure in a world far different from her homeland as she visits her sister, Audrey Piasecki, who lives on Pike Lake, Warsaw. Her biggest surprise was the supermarket. “There are no pre-packaged foods at home.” What she will miss most when she goes home is fishing. She has spent many hours outside her sister’s door with fishing pole in hand. Coach Greg Sasso’s Tiger tennis team bounced back from a 4-1 setback to the sixth-ranked LaPorte Slicers to shut out Northern Lakes Conference foe Northridge 5-0 at the Tigers court. Warsaw is now 2-0 in conference play and 4-2 overall. All three singles players and both doubles teams won in straight sets. 50 Years Ago Times-Union September Calendar Girl is Sheryl Goshert, a Warsaw High School junior. Sheryl wore her cheerleader’s finery as she waited for the big Northern Lakes Conference football jamboree at Fisher Field. Her father is head football coach William “Bill” Goshert. Lt. Gov. Richard Ristine congratulated Chloe Robison, Leesburg, for her 30 years as precinct committee woman in the second precinct of Plain Township. Robison resigned after serving since 1934. Rozella Ford, 88, Route 2, Warsaw, Kosciusko County’s most outstanding lady farmer, passed away Sept. 1. Land on which Rozella Ford Community Golf Course is located was leased from her four years ago. Officials put the flag at half mast. 75 Years Ago J.K. Lilly, Indianapolis drug manufacturer, summer resident of Wawasee Lake for many years, has a fine new sailboat imported from Sweden. The craft, largest ever on Indiana inland lakes, has a mast 40 feet high, an odd-shaped balloon-like mainsail and is skippered by Bob Streiby. The Rev. C.B. Moreland, Moody Bible Institute, preached the opening sermon of the chautauqua season June 25. Dr. Charles E. Fuller, radio preacher from Los Angeles, was heard from Winona Lake over a nation-wide hook up, broadcast from the Billy Sunday Tabernacle. Homer Rodeheaver directed the music and the Winona quartet entertained.
