10 Years Ago Dan Milligan was awarded a $1,000 scholarship recently from the Knights of Columbus Council 6323, of Syracuse. Milligan is a Wawasee High School graduate and attends University of St. Francis. David Sands of the Knights presented the scholarship to him. 25 Years Ago This is a recipe for Guacamole Dip which was submitted in the Spotlight Recipe Contest by Dawn Martin, Winona Lake. 2 medium ripe avocados, mashed; 1 medium onion, chopped; 2 green chili peppers (1/2 can, 2 oz. size); 1 tbsp. lemon juice; 1 tsp. salt; 1/4 tsp. pepper; 1/2 tsp. ascorbic acid mixture (Vitamin C); 1 medium tomato, chopped. Mix all ingredients very well. Makes 2 cups. Serve with tacos, burritos and nachos. 50 Years Ago An estimated 8,000 persons swarmed through the merchant’s building at the fairgrounds last night to view the elaborate displays of the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Industrial Exposition, President Robert Ellison announced today. Thirty-six industries, representing plants in Warsaw, Leesburg, Pierceton and Mentone, are participating in the program that drew 20,000 persons to last year’s showing. A special time was set aside for special viewing by school children. 75 Years Ago The Rev. and Mrs. O.A. Newlin of Winona Lake will leave for San Mateo, Fla., where the former has a pastorate at the Presbyterian Church. They will be accompanied by their daughter, Ruth, who has enrolled at Stetson University at DeLand, Fla.
