The Warsaw Tigers faced off against the Lakeland Christian Academy Cougars in a boys soccer match in the Warsaw invitational at the City-County Athletic Complex Saturday morning. The Tigers topped the Cougars 2-0. Warsaw’s Jordan Quiroz scored the first goal of the match, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Warsaw squad never relinquished the lead after that point, and Kyle Burnett added to the Tiger advantage with a goal of his own.

The bright lights of Hollywood will come to Indianapolis when a movie about an Indiana High School basketball team makes its world premiere. “Hoosiers,” a movie shot on location in Indiana, will have its premiere at the Circle Theater in downtown Indianapolis Nov. 10. Steve Hollar, a standout guard on Warsaw’s 1984 state high school championship basketball team, has a major role in the film, and minor parts are played by former WCHS athlete Chris Stine and another Warsaw High graduate, Skip Welker.

Two civic leaders, Jesse Eschbach and Mrs. Cecil (Marie) Armstrong, were honored as “Warsaw Man and Woman of the Year” winners last night at the Chamber’s 50th Anniversary banquet held in the American Legion. Both received engraved plaques given each year by The Times-Union in cooperation with the Chamber. Eschbach is an attorney and president of Endicott Church Furniture Inc. Mrs. Armstrong is socially prominent and a leader in various club and organization activities. Both are residents of Warsaw.

75 Years Ago

Mrs. Robert Hatfield recently left for Pikeville, Ky., where she will resume her duties, as matron in a girls’ dormitory. She has been employed there for 11 years. Mrs. Hatfield spent the summer at her home, the Ainsworth Cottage, Sixth Street, Winona Lake.
