10 Years Ago Nine Kosciusko County Departments requested new employees for 2003. But the county council granted only a few at its third and final budget meeting of the week. County council president Jim Tranter presented the wage committee’s recommendations on those requests to the rest of the county council. The wage committee members are county commissioner Brad Jackson and councilmen Tranter and Brad Tandy. County administrator Ron Robinson serves on the committee as an adviser. 25 Years Ago This recipe for German Potato Salad was submitted by Barbara Storkman Calhan, Warsaw. It was published in the Spotlight International Recipe Contest. Ingredients: 2 qts. cooked potatoes; 8 slices bacon; 1 cup chopped onions; 1/2 cup baconfat; 1/2 cup vinegar; 3 T. flour; 2 cups water; 2 T. sugar; 2 t. salt; 1/2 t. pepper; chopped green pepper if desired. Cut up bacon and fry. Remove bacon saving 1/2 cup bacon fat. Add to bacon fat the rest of the ingredients; onions, vinegar, 3 T. flour, 2 cups water, 2 T. sugar, 2 t. salt and 1/2 t. pepper. Also a chopped green pepper if desired. This will make a gravy - boil 1 minute. Cover potatoes. Let stand one hour. 50 Years Ago Dress Revue Finalists - Members of the senior honor group who modeled suits and dresses at the 4-H Dress Revue recently at the fairgrounds were: Sue Warner of Silver Lake, who was named grand champion; Jayne Tuttle, Pierceton, and Nancy Bouse, Silver Lake; Rita Lockridge, Beaver Dam, Barbara Boggs of Pierceton, and reserve champion, Janice Lowman, Warsaw; second alternate, Ramona Enyeart, Silver Lake; Marie Nelson, Burket, and Sharon Weaver, Pierceton. 75 Years Ago August is the big resort month of Kosciusko County. Especially is this true at Lake Wawasee, where according to residents of Syracuse all cottages for this month have been rented and in the vicinity of Syracuse a “housing shortage” has developed. Sports indulged in by the resorters are boating, fishing, bathing, golf and tennis.
