   Aster Prentice, Winona Lake, recently won the REAL Service Area 2 Agency on Aging Award for Older Worker of the Year (over the age 60), which recognizes an older worker who has made a significant contribution to the community. The award was presented at a luncheon in the Century Center, South Bend. Among the awards and momentos she received were: an autographed copy of “What It Takes To Be No. 1” by Vice Lombardi Jr.; the award plaque; and the engraved CD “The Spirit of America” from Daniel Rodriguez, “the Singing Cop.”

   Fifty-three students entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades got a taste of college academics during Manchester College’s Mindpower ’87 summer experience for gifted/talented students, July 5-17. Students studied two of nine courses offered by Mindpower, all with the college setting.  Students attending the Manchester College Mindpower ’87 included: Joshua Meyers, Claypool; Stephanie Beery, Sam Cox, Nikki Presl, Jennifer Williams, North Manchester; and Janessa Gerber, Warsaw.

   Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haney and four children have returned to Egbe, Nigeria, from Syracuse, N.Y., where they spent most of the past year. Haney is assistant principal, and head of the chemistry department at Titcombe College. His wife teaches physics. Haney completed work for his master’s degree at Syracuse University on a grant from the National Science Foundation. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Haney, Winona Lake.

   W.P. Carmichael, Mr. and Mrs. E.K. Shera, Miss Mina Shera and Mrs. B.F. Ringle returned recently from Lakeside, Ohio, where they attended the concert of the Winona quartette directed by Miss Katherine N. Carmichael.
   Mr. and Mrs. Porter Brown and daughter, Marolyn, Mrs. Ed Watson and Miss Mildred Sloane are leaving for a two weeks’ trip to Miami, Fla., where they will visit with Mrs. Watson’s daughter, Miss Dorothy Watson.
