A six-inch hole was discovered Thursday morning, Aug. 16, at the intersection of Center and Indiana streets by the Warsaw Public Works. It was discovered that a cavity about the size of a pick-up truck was under the street. “Asphalt and rails of the old Interurban rail line was holding the street up,” said acting superintendent Kim Leake. The Interurban rail lines are under much of Center Street, with sewer lines under the tracks. Some drainage tiles under the street had collapsed. The cavity was filled in after nearly hours of digging. After three weeks of settling, fresh concrete and asphalt will be put on.
Warsaw Municipal Airport director Karen Sheetz says the added activity at the airport the last two weeks is due to General Motors aircraft picking up freight from United Technologies in Bourbon. There has been a steady stream of DC-3's and a Beecher 18.
