10 Years Ago With great weather and fun times, Claypool's Festival included a bed race Saturday, Aug. 20. Maneuvering through the obstacles were Tom Gore, Tawny Dile, Shavon Brown, Taylor Lindley and Evan Watkins. Leanne Miller, 2005 Whitko High School graduate, and daughter of Henry and Kathy Miller, received the Menzie-Reece American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258 annual college scholarship. She will pursue a nursing degree at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Auxiliary president is Lenora Stump. 25 Years Ago InterDesign Group architect Joel Blum presented drawings to the library board of a renovated Warsaw Community Public Library at the present Center Street location. There would be 40,420 square feet of floor space26,420 more than at present. The building would extend west into what is now the parking lot, with the main entrance facing Center Lake on the alley facing Main Street. This would require demolition of the Masonic building, house and possibly the Christian Science building. The structure would be built to complement the original Carnegie Library, built in 1917. Special features include an Indiana history room and a 175-person capacity meeting room. The new library is expected to open in 1993. 50 Years Ago Roy Patterson, manager, announced that the Boice Theatre will present “Top Teen Talent” Saturday, Aug. 14, featuring “The Avanti 4” (Jack Kaufman, Tom Dzuba, Mike Chapel and Tim Leek) and the “Silver Surfers” (Kent and Brent Wildman, Mike Chapel and Sid Sanderson). All the teen-agers are from Warsaw. Randy Underhill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Underhill, Warsaw, recently completed a two-week camp at the Mickey Owen Baseball School at Miller, Mo. “I liked every minute of it.” United Telephone Company of Indiana, headquartered in Warsaw, installed a special gold telephone in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Chizum of Knox in commemoration of the installation of its 100,000th telephone. 75 Years Ago The second issue of Statehood postage stamps within a week will go on sale at the Warsaw post office July 11, Idaho being released July 5. The purple stamp commemorates the 50th anniversary of Wyoming's admission to the union.
