    The local Kroger store will close its doors Sept. 14, ending a 48-year run of serving the community.

The closing comes after Kroger finalized the purchase of two Owen's Supermarkets in Warsaw.

August 26 1983

    Two Leesburg youths won trophies during the 4-H Horse and Pony Show at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis.

Mary Beth Hunter, 19, Leesburg, won the Grand Champion trophy and won class competition for 100 Type Geldings, 5-years-old and older. Britton Harmon, 13, Leesburg, won the Reserve Grand Champion trophy and second place in the 100 Type Gelding, 5-years-old and older.

August 26 1958

    Frank Logan, 50-year member of the Pierceton Masonic Lodge, will receive a gold award from the Indiana Grand Lodge during an "Old Timers Night" ceremony in Pierceton.

Logan, architect for the new Masonic temple in Pierceton, served as master of the lodge in 1943-44.

August 26 1933

    Winners in the stock judging contest held under the auspices of Farm Bureau are: Kenneth Foreman, 18, Warsaw High School; Hubert Clingenpeel, 17, Mentone High School; and Paul Barnes, 18, Pierceton High School. Ward Harmon, 17, Etna Green High School, was selected as alternate judge.
