Claypool Good Neighbors: Layne and Janet Warren, Jason and Debbie Gross, Suzie Light, Missy Smith, Don and Donna Morris, Lois Johnson, Pam Kennedy, Avis Gunter, Paul and Frythany Berkey, Joel Curry, Gene Cauffman, Jim Sarber, Jerry Johnson and Don Ring. The group launched 41 red balloons Friday; returned tags can be redeemed at Housing Opportunities of Warsaw. Since 2003, the Good Neighbors volunteer labor for people who can't do for themselves.
Tom Davis was recognized for 15 years of service and dedication to T.L. Jackson Construction Inc., Syracuse, by Brad and Bruce Jackson. He has been a team member since August, 1990.

 Gilliam Lanes will begin its 30th year of operation Friday, Aug. 17, with a new look. According to Mike Gilliam, the alley now has the top-of-the-line  electronic AMF scoring system. The parking lot has been resurfaced, new infra-red foul line lights installed and a new lighted awning out front, stretching all the way down to City Limits (formerly La Madre).
Eugene A. Oliver is the new building commissioner for Warsaw, effective in August. He replaces Fred Johnson, who resigned in July to take a sales position with a Fort Wayne firm. Oliver was recently faculty engineer at Zimmer.

 Mrs. Stanley Arnolt presented F. Benjamin Scheeter with a 25-year service award at a luncheon at Horn's Sunnymede Restaurant. Those with 20 years of service at Arnolt Corporation are Chester Zorn, Ruth Rice and Oakley Kester. Also honored were five, 10 and 15-year employees. Vice president and general manager Joseph Stein spoke.
Winning new bicycles during “Kids' Day” were Betty Winchester, 13, Claypool; Teresa Reed, 8, and Randy Snyder, 13, Warsaw; Bill Harper, 9, visiting at Chapman Lake.
Kent Ring, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ring, Claypool, was chosen top showman in the 4-H Pony Show; Linda Kempton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kempton, Sidney, top horsemanship honors; top driver went to LuAnn Walters, Beaver Dam.

The 1940 chautauqua season was opened at Winona Lake Monday, July 1 with a brilliant program by the Mendelssohn quartet in the auditorium, with an unusually large crowd. Sydney Montague, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, speaks about his life among the Eskimos Tuesday. The Blue Danube Trio appear Wednesday.
