10 Years Ago Grace College students Meg Adriance, Mich., and Sarah Vaughan, Ohio, painted the foundation of Dick Alexander's house in Pierceton as part of the college's annual “Day of Caring” Aug. 17. Mayor Ernie Wiggins sent a letter of gratitude to Steven Hodges and his Eagle Scout group for “a great act of community service.” Landscaping was completed on the outside of the Warsaw Police Department Aug. 13 by Hodges, nine Scouts and family members. 25 Years Ago Featured in this year's Bourbon Antique Tractor and Engine Show Aug. 18 and 19 is a rare George White Number 6 grain separator owned by Gerald Parker and Mike Noel, both of the Leesburg area. The George White firm in London, Ontario, Canada has been in business since 1857 until acquired by the Massey Harris Company. On display is a restored 70-year-old circus wagon that had been resting in a field near Atwood for nearly 20 years after being pulled from a woods in northern Michigan. Club members have converted it into a cook wagon; food will be served from the wagon during the show, located three miles south of Bourbon on Ind. 331. 50 Years Ago Wayne Township summer recreation program award winners: Little LeagueRandy Coplen, National, and Tom Wiltrout, American; Bill Shirey, Pony League; Mary Clemens, Girls Softball; Robin Rasor, Girls Tennis; Tom Webb, Avery (Pat) Garber sportsmanship award; John Ladd, Little League manager; Glen Thomas, Pony League manager. Recognized for their service to the program were Ed Aker and Robert Barsh who spearheaded the drive to construct the Little League diamonds out of the marshy swamp area on East Market St. in 1951; Louis Breading has been with the Little League system for 17 years since its origin when the softball program began; Ted Davis started two years later when Little League baseball first started in Warsaw. 75 Years Ago Tippy's vocalist Judy Wright, no second-rate warbler, won an audition with Paul Whiteman's orchestra not long ago over a field of 200 contestants. She's done a lot of radio vocalizing.
