August 19 1998

    NORTH MANCHESTER - Ashley Cooper shot a 38, two strokes better than the school record held by six other players, as Warsaw beat Whitko 177-272.

Cooper had seven pars and two bogies on the par-36 Sycamore Golf Club to set the record. Kerri Wrobel shot a 45 for the Tigers.

August 19 1983

    An 11-year-old girl is being credited with saving the lives of two people who were asleep in a burning apartment adjacent to the Barbee Bait Shop.

Chris Pavel, who lives in a mobile home behind the building, heard crackling and an explosion coming from the building. She saw flames coming from an apartment at the rear of the bait shop, and banged on the door to awaken Mary Hughes and Ervin Marsilette Jr., who live there. They were able to escape without injury.

August 19 1958

    Norman L. Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orlie C. Shaw, West Center Street, serves on the USS Captricornus, which recently took aboard the 2nd battalion of the 2nd Marine regiment from Beirut, Lebanon. The battalion will remain on the ship in the Mediterranean area. Shaw is a boatswain's mate second class.

    With only 54 cents balance, the officers and directors of the Kosciusko County Fair association by unanimous vote recently voted to hold no fair because the Kosciusko County Council made no provisions for the payment of premiums as had been the custom for many years. There will be no fair this year for the first time in many years.
