10 Years Ago Rebecca Benjamin, Warsaw, placed second in the State Fair’s junior talent contest recently. Rebecca, 8, daughter of Bryan and Marie Benjamin, of Warsaw, performed Seitz Concerto No. 5, first movement, on violin. Rebecca qualified for state competition during the Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair’s junior talent contest, where she wowed the crowd with the same selection. 25 Years Ago This recipe for “Alternative Breakfast Treat” was submitted by Barbara Patterson, Warsaw in the Spotlight American Recipe Contest. 1 tbsp. butter margarine; 1 can corned beef hash; 4 or 5 eggs. Cheddar cheese sauce (could be package mix) soup or melted cheddar cheese thinned with small amount of milk). Melt butter or margarine in 8”- or 10” non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add corned beef, smoothing out in skillet. Place 4 or 5 eggs in indentations in corned beef. Lightly salt and pepper eggs. Put 1/4 cup water around edge of skillet. Cover and steam until eggs are cooked. Serve with cheese sauce over eggs. 50 Years Ago Somewhere between 500 and 1,000 graduates are expected to attend the Warsaw High School Alumni Reunion at the new $1.8 million high school building on East Smith Street (two blocks west of the county fairgrounds.) Graduates dating as far back as 1902 and as recent as 1962 are invited. So are the present school administrators, school board members, principals and teachers. 75 Years Ago A.A. Mahoney, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mahoney and Mrs. Ed Leighty left Warsaw and Burket vicinity Sunday at 6 a.m. and Sunday night stopped in Omaha, Neb., an auto drive of 608 miles in one day. They are en route to Los Angeles. A.A. Mahoney, who writes The Times, notes the numerous crooked curves in U.S. 6 and the fine appearing crops of corn, oats and soy beans.
