10 Years Ago The Kosciusko County Historical Society recently recognized the family of John and James Hall, descendants of Samuel Hall, at their annual picnic. Samuel D. Hall and his wife, the former Catherine Anglin, came to Indiana in the fall of 1834 from Harrison County, Va. When Samuel and Catherine and five of their eight children moved to the area, it was about the time that Kosciusko County was split from Elkhart County.
25 Years Ago Ducks living at Winona Lake will be a little safer with the help of a present from the city of Warsaw to the town of Winona Lake. Plank presented the town board with a large yellow duck crossing sign. Garry Baker of the street department said he was sure he could find a place on Park Avenue for the caution. Ed Breeden, board president, told Plank they would loan the sign back to Warsaw if they needed it to reduce speeds on U.S. 30.
50 Years Ago Competition was high last week among the Home Demonstration clubs for special awards in exhibiting at the Kosciusko County Fair. Winners for the most entries were Mrs. Floyd Holler, of Thrifty-fifty club, first; Mrs. Kenneth Greenawalt, of Etna Club, second; Mrs. James Miller, of Jolly Janes, third. Winners for the most prizes were Mrs. Holler, first; Mrs. Hobart Person, of Better Homes club, second; and Mrs. Earl Lowman, of Seward club, third. All are presidents of their respective clubs.
75 Years Ago Mrs. John Ralph Boice, wife of the owner of Warsaw's Strand movie theatre, and her father, Tom Hough, who is visiting here from Hollywood, Calif., were seen at the Warsaw Country Club where father and daughter have spent many a pleasant afternoon this summer. It is the father's first visit back to Indiana in 20 years. Mrs. Boice ranks among the first of Warsaw's women golfers who frequent the course at Warsaw Country Club.
