10 Years Ago Twenty-seven golfers participated in the final round of Cardinal Center’s fifth annual “Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Shootout” at Stonehenge Golf Course July 27. Heavy rain and strong winds pounded the golf course prior to play but, despite the weather conditions, each finalist demonstrated great sportsmanship and spirit throughout the competition. Milford resident Harlan Wuthrich had the closest final shot at a distance of 10 feet 1/2 inch from the million dollar hole. His shot had the audience cheering as it skidded past the hole. 25 Years Ago Kosciusko County American Red Cross is introducing the Saturday Bloodmobile. A 40-foot, custom designed bus, better known as the Self Contained Unit, will be located at the Blair-B-Q Restaurant, 774 W. Market St., Warsaw, Aug. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. The vehicle, which will be staffed by three nurses and one mobile unit assistant, can accommodate 16 donors an hour and requires that donors have appointments. “What better way to spend a summer Saturday than by saving a life while lounging in an air-conditioned bus?” 50 Years Ago Three members of Boy Scout Troop 30, of Warsaw, attained the rank of Eagle Scout and are pictured in front of the Methodist Church, their sponsoring organization. They are: Bob Newcomb, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Newcomb, 1417 Ranch Road; Jerry Titus, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Titus, 122 N. High St.; and Terry Cripe, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cripe, 1307 Ranch Road. Lloyd Perkins is their Scoutmaster. Dens 3 and 6 of Cub Scout Pack 93 of Winona Lake, with their den mothers, visited the Times-Union Tuesday and toured the newspaper plant and radio station WRSW. 75 Years Ago The Warsaw Daily Times placed 20 lively large mouth black bass in Center, Pike, Winona, Chapman and Barbee Lakes. Each bass, weighing 3 pounds and more, obtained from the Wawasee Hatchery, has been tagged by the Times with a small metallic tag behind the right gill bearing numbers from 10 to 20. To fisherman landing these bass will go a total of $150 in prizes. The Times will give $10 for each bass and Sport Essig’s Sporting Goods Store will be giving away $5 in fishing tackle merchandise. Center, Pike and Winona each received two tagged bass; Big and Little Chapman received one each; Big and Little Barbee received one each. All fishermen must be a Warsaw Times subscriber and use tackle from Essig’s. The fish must be taken legally in June, July or August 1938, and exhibited alive at the Times office.
