10 Years Ago U.S. Sen. Evan Bayh visited Hand Industries Inc. recently, talking with employees and local folks about a permanent end to the estate tax. Hand Industries is a family-owned business, which began in 1957, in its second generation of operation. With the estate tax permanently repealed, Hoosier families and businesses could put their money to better use. 25 Years Ago Denny Hepler had his place in the sun, while Randy Heisler saw bronze under the lights in separate sporting events for the two Warsaw natives recently. Hepler, a two-year pro on the PGA tour, fired a six-under par 66 to take a three-shot lead after three rounds of the Indiana Ford Dealers Open Golf Tournament at the Honeywell Public Golf Course in Wabash. Hepler, meanwhile, took a bronze medal with a third-place finish in the discus at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis. 50 Years Ago Nine boys of the community, who went on the Clifty Falls camping trip sponsored by the Warsaw Optimist Club, were Pug Rupe, Duane Moore, Mike Garee, Wesley Earl, Stanley Moore, John Hanna, Mike Gibson, Jim McGuire and Terry Inman. Adults who looked after them were Mr. and Mrs. Max Greenman, Jack Ballentine, Paul Kingston and Louis C. Jonas. They borrowed Mayor Mike Hodges’ carry-all bus for the expedition. 75 Years Ago Dewey Johnston, of Warsaw, and Wilbur Strauss, of Winona Lake, will start Sunday on a two-weeks trip west in the former’s Model T Ford. The boys expect to go as far as they can travel in one week and return the following week.
