    Pierceton native Rachel Engelberth Sawyer is competing successfully in crew events at the Nike World Masters Games in Portland, Ore.

Rowing with the Lake Washington Rowing Club, her boat has taken first in two events (8+Class D and 2-Class A) and second in another (2-Class B). She is also competing in the 4+Class B race and her boat is first in the preliminaries.

    Winners of the Warsaw girls T-ball tournament were the Swans comprised of Kristi Burris, Kay Linn and Karla Hoke, Laynell Layman, Brenda Bone, Stephanie Hunter, Jenna Parrett, Beth Stackhouse, Shelly Slone, Katrina Zimmerman, Candy Gregory and Cecilia, Elizabeth and Johnna Fuentes. Their coaches are George and Kay Parrett.

    Winners in the open class sheep judging at the Kosciusko County Fair have been announced.

First-place winners were John Scott, Claypool; David Creighton, Warsaw; Barton Butt, Syracuse; Rudy Ross, South Whitley; Don Cretcher, Pierceton; Latimer and Son, Warsaw; Karen Latimer, Warsaw; Stanley Scott, Claypool; and Patty Horrick, Warsaw.

    A 2-1/4-pound bass, cornered in a small bay in Center Lake, attempted to leap a row boat which blocked its way out and fell into the boat of Maurice Becknell, who was fishing near his home on the north side of Center Lake a few days ago.
