The new Bourbon Post Office, corner of Park Avenue and Main Street, will be dedicated at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 7. Acting Postmaster James L. Slough says the program will be held at the Bourbon High School gymnasium with an open house at the post office following the ceremony. “Mail business in this area has gone up. The number of mail collection boxes are eight, compared with one 10 years ago. The fact that we’ve been chosen for a new post office reflects credit on our growing contribution to the country and life of the nation.” The first postmaster was Dr. John F. Parks in 1839; Lawrence M. Slough was postmaster from 1934 to 1963.

Reports have been made by County Agent Joseph Clark that the cankerworm is causing considerable havoc, not only on farms but on shrubbery and small trees in Warsaw. The worms are bad in Plain and Tippecanoe Townships and have done damage to shrubs on West Fort Wayne and East Center Streets. “These worms feed on the foliage of the plant until some time in June when they drop to the ground to pupate. These worms are light green, one-half to three-quarters of an inch in length. The method for controlling the worms is to spray the plant foliage infected with arsenate of lead, using one and one-half pounds to 50 gallons of water or nine level teaspoonsful to one gallon of water.”
