POTPOURRI - A wild duck, which had been seen on Pike Lake with plastic pop can rings over its beak and head, was rescued from its unfortunate predicament by an animal lover. While attending a family reunion, Rick Speigel, Warsaw, dove fully-clothed into the lake and came up with the suspect duck. In a flash, he removed the pop can ring from the duck's head, freeing its mouth so it could once again take nourishment.

Seems Speigel was not the first person to try and rescue the duck. County Conservation Officer Larry Morris and Warsaw Patrolman Lance Grubbs had each tried to be heroes when the duck was spotted earlier in the week on the lake.
