Although the Bourbon fairgrounds have been empty since 1962, this was the main attraction for 90 years, beginning in 1872 when the Pioneer Farmers' Club was organized with Harrison Sparrow, president, and Washington Iden, secretary. The first fair was held in old No. Nine Schoolhouse, one and one-half miles east of Bourbon; this building was moved across the road in 1895 and is now used as a granary on the Samuel Byrer farm. The fair continued to grow, with land purchased and grandstand and other buildings erected and on Aug. 16, 1891, the Bourbon fairgrounds were purchased. Today, most of the old buildings are standing and the race track is being used by the Tri-Township School Corporation.
