0 Years Ago Jeff Noffsinger, Warsaw’s city planner, has spearheaded the Lake City Greenway project for the past few years. The concept began as a Kosciusko Leadership Academy “white paper.” With grants and community support, the eight-mile greenway system is on its way to completion. Vince Glunt, of Glunt Construction, Pierceton, completes the final portion of the Beyer Farm Trail near the Warsaw Women’s Center on the Kosciusko Community Hospital campus June 26. The trail, the first phase of the Lake City Greenway, is open to the public. An official opening ceremony is set for July 12. The 10-foot wide, two-thirds of a mile path begins on asphalt at the Firemen’s Building grounds along Pike Lake and becomes a wooden boardwalk above the wetlands fed by the Beyer-Brady Ditch. Originally, the Beyer Brothers Farm encompassed more than 430 acres on the southeast side of Pike Lake. The farm is referred to as “a splendid country estate” in the “History of Kosciusko County,” circa 1920. 25 Years Ago If you can push it, pull it, glue it or just get it to stick together long enough to float, you’ve got the makings of a boat for this year’s Summer Rage boat race. The race will take place at Center Lake July 17 during Warsaw’s Pioneer Days. This is the first year for the event and all proceeds will go to Riverwood Ranch home. Michael Saldivar, spokesman, said two people will have to be able to ride in the boat. This year’s parade theme is “Exercise Your Right – Vote.” Judy Cole, co-chairman, says, “Once again, downtown merchants can have sales on the sidewalk and organizations can have crafts on the Courthouse lawn.” 50 Years Ago Mr. & Mrs. Charles Adams of Beaver Dam were hosts at a cook-out supper at their home recently.
