    Jodee Ruppel, North Manchester, was among 50 students from 28 farming states to receive a $2,500 Commitment to Agriculture scholarship, sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture and Monsanto Co.

Ruppel, who will attend Purdue University, wrote in her scholarship essay: "I am a firm believer that production agriculture is our foundation, and that agriculture now covers new and exciting territories. I feel agriculture needs a strong voice in government, and my goal is to be that voice."

    Three area individuals will be playing for the Indiana High School All-Star basketball teams in its two-game series with Kentucky, which opens Saturday night in Lexington, Ky. They are Marty Lehmann, Warsaw, Triton's Lorea Feldman and Whitko's Jeff Peters all members of the Hoosier teams.

    For the first time in probably more than 30 years Warsaw will have what is to be known as the

"Warsaw Municipal Band." Early this year band director Willard Snapp, Warsaw, conceived the idea for a band to play public concerts at the Center Lake Park. The band will largely be made up of former high school band members returning home from college for the summer, along with others in the community interested in band music.

    Movies featured at the Strand theater recently were: "Gamblers: In Love at Cards"; "Half A Sinner" & "Stand Up and Cheer" Cost was 15 cents. Kids were charged 5 cents on Friday & Saturday Afternoon.
