   On June 10, Bill Bradbury, Roy Bradbury, Al Rovenstine and Mike Harmon were guests of the Atwood Lions Club. The occasion was to honor Bradbury for his 60 years of service on Atwood Fire Department. Bradbury was appointed to the department June 7, 1942 when he was 16, by Al Rovenstine’s father. Tim, who was the first Atwood fire chief. Twenty men were chosen as firemen but every man in Atwood was there to assist. They were called the Atwood Bucket Brigade.

    A Winona Lake man was one of five people to receive Manchester College’s Alumni Award, during the Alumni Day banquet held on campus. D. Blaine Mikesell, 72, Winona Lake, received the prestigious college’s award, along with Paul S. Bowman, North Manchester.

     Trustee Earl Boggs has received word from state officials that the Mentone High school Vocational Agriculture Department has received a first class rating. The school is one of the 55 out of 328 rated first class in the state. Morris Bitzer is instructor in the department.
   Ed Williams, graduate of Warsaw High School, is a member of the cast for the second summer production in the “Little Shoestring Theater” at Ball State Teachers College.

    More than 300 girls from all over the United States arrived Tuesday and Wednesday at the Spink-Wawasee Hotel, Lake Wawasee, to attend the national Delta Theta Tau convention being held there this week. With the Warsaw chapter as host, Miss Elizabeth Thompson, president of the local sorority is in charge of all committees. Initiation services will be held for Miss Ione Diddel, of Warsaw and Helen Beatty of Leesburg.
