    LEESBURG - A 15-year-old Leesburg Boy Scout, Jayson Howey, exhibited bravery and quick action as he put his own life on the line to save another.

Howey was one of several teens standing nearby when 8-year-old Zachary Winchester fell through the ice on the Backwater Lake channel and was in danger of drowning. Without hesitation, Howey found a broken limb and carefully slid across the ice until he could reach Winchester with the limb, pulling him out by his collar.

    POTPOURRI - Headed For Camp - WCHS basketball coach Al Rhodes taking standout players Jeff Grose and Marty Lehmann to a basketball camp for talented players in Pennsylvania this week. On their way back, they will stop at a camp in Ohio.

Grose, who will be a junior next year, was the team's leading scorer last year at more than 16 points per game. Lehmann, a senior next year, was the third leading scorer at nearly 12 points a game.

    Nancy Hubartt, Jackie Hamman, Brenda Baughn, Sally Cormican and Monean Doyle, Girl Scouts in Troop 35 at North Webster, are attending day camp at the county fairgrounds in Warsaw.

July 8 1933

    A group of friends belled Mr. and Mrs. Freeland Phillips, newlyweds, recently. The couple were taken for a long ride in a service truck. Following the ride, the friends were taken to their newly furnished home on East Main Street where they were treated. Mrs. Phillips was formerly Margaret Barr.
