Ronald Truex, Warsaw, general manager of Creighton Brothers, has been appointed to a three-year term to the Indiana Egg Board. Gov. Frank O’Bannon announced several appointments to state boards and commissions this week. Truex, a Kosciusko County commissioner, joins Robert Krouse, of Mentone, president of Midwest Poultry who was re-appointed to a three-year term expiring May 20, 2003.25 Years Ago
Local runners Bryan Sponseller and Karen DeVries were winners at the annual Etna Green Country Run, part of the activities for the Etna Green Fourth of July celebration. Sponseller, of Atwood, was the first among the men with a winning time of 20:30. DeVries, a Grace College graduate now living in Demotte, was first among the women in 24:46. Winners were honored in 17 categories for the country run. In addition, Alan Aldefer and Julie Cobbs were winners in the accompanying fun run.50 Years Ago
Miss Bernice Engle and Mrs. Richard Reece, of Warsaw, were at Purdue University recently for a weeklong workshop on school hot lunch programs. Both are cooks for the Madison School cafeteria.Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brennan and children, Patricia and James, of Warsaw, spent the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Don Tonn, of South Bend. They also went to LaPorte to see the parade sponsored by the Jaycees.

Warsaw and Kosciusko County suffered with the Midwest Monday in the heat wave in which thermometers in some sections registered as high as 110 degrees. The heat Monday was blistering, and although there was an of inch rain approximately a week ago, some lawns again are brown, and even weeds were wilted. A warning was issued again regarding fire hazards by the fire department and insurance agencies. Smokers and campers are especially warned to use care in the throwing away of matches or the leaving of unextinguished camp fires.
