Twelve students from Caudill’s ATA Black Belt Academy in Warsaw recently competed in the World Championship in Little Rock, Ark. The Warsaw students joined others from the United States, South America and Europe for the three-day event. The adults competed on the final day of the tournament. Competitors from Caudill’s included: Steven Wood, Terri Hubner, Chris Hubner, Elijah Condinho, Brenda Wadkins, Beth Hoyt, Robert Hoyt, Kayla Spencer and Suzi Caudill.

Adj Kitt, a first-generation American and director of voluntary services at Bowen Center, co-chaired a local fund drive with Don Payne, an editor at Free Methodist headquarters in Winona, that turned out to be one of the largest community efforts for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. She was one of more than 12 million people gathered in and around New York Harbor July 4th to witness the results of that restoration. She and several friends chartered a double-deck sailing vessel and were situated in the middle of the full day of festivities. A 22- foot-high flag of the Statue of Liberty, which was painted in Warsaw, was to be displayed on the boat.

Midshipman Terry A. Abell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Abell, Warsaw, was among 700 midshipmen from the Naval Academy at Annapolis who recently took part in their first amphibious landing at Little Creek, Norfolk, Va. Two weeks of practice preceded the exercise, which included jets, ships, helicopters, frogmen and landing troops. Terry will graduate from the academy in 1963.

Russell Brown and son, Harold, are installing a restaurant and short-order eating place in the old Ed Hall building, 113 E. Market St., being vacated by Frauhiger Co., as a sales room. The elder Mr. Brown will continue employment with the county highway department, turning management of the restaurant over to his son, who will do the chef work.
