10 Years Ago The Warsaw Squares square dance club presented its 2003 graduating class: Leota Malcolm, Dick Malcolm, Roberta Lyon, Ron Miller, Pirkko Miller, Mary Gasa, George Gasa, Barb Hudson, Leslie Piazza, Ruth Tucker, Andrew Paseka, Millie Martin, Monica Grubbs and Ken Grubbs. The dancers were initiated into the club, which meets the third Saturday of the month from September through May at the Baker Boys Club on North Park Avenue, Warsaw, and presented with diplomas. Jerry Davidson is the caller and instructor. 25 Years Ago The singing and musical group, the Melloaires, will perform at Bowen Center’s open house. The group is made up of 20 senior citizens, averaging 73 years of age. The pianist used to play for silent movies. A group of music teachers from North Manchester and their families, who have been performing together as “Larry and Friends,” will be playing a variety of music. The group includes Larry Doctor, Terry and Pam McKee, their son, Doug, and Jeff Felgar, drummer. “After Class Blue Grass” includes Gary and Gloria Meadors, J.D. Woods, and David Brown. 50 Years Ago Senior members of the Warsaw Community High School choral department will take part in their final program of the year. The annual “Spring Music Festival” will be held Tuesday in the gym. Junior high, freshmen and high school music students will participate in the program. Special awards of recognition will be given to the outstanding music students of the year. Seniors are Vicki Philapy, Jeanne Tuka, Janet Swanson, Freda Todd, Kathleen Morphew, Lois Gardner, Nancy Coplen, Barbara McHatton, Avalee Martin, Becky Anglin, Dennis Barker, Benny Beigh, Carl Fields, Karen Gigous, Nancy Crum, Jack Schutz, Carolyn Nye, Carla Wells, Claudia Hubler and Judy Boyd. 75 Years Ago Invitations to attend Flag Day services on the evening of June 14 at the city park pavilion at Center Lake have been extended to all patriotic organizations in the county. Special guests will be the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the county, who will parade in the park shortly before the 8 a.m. service. Featured will be a colorful history of the American Flag and stirring, patriotic music by the Warsaw High School Band under the direction of Frank Meredith. The local Elks Lodge and the committee in charge, Charles H. Rice, George Boone and Donald Lessig, will arrange the program.
