 The Boys & Girls Club of Kosciusko County has won a national award in Colgate-Palmolive’s 29th annual search for the country’s best community service projects by young Americans. The club allows youth the opportunity to work and learn with their peers in an effort to acquire additional technology skills through “Kids-N-Computers.” The club’s project was chosen from among more than 2,000 entries nationwide and recognized with a $100 fourth prize in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America division.

 Friends, relatives and customers helped Robert “Pinky” Eherenman celebrate his 60th birthday recently. (A sign was posted to ‘honk 3 times’.) The operator of Pinky’s 76 service station in downtown Warsaw, “Pinky” was seen showing off his cake. The rumor that “Pinky” is giving away gasoline in celebration of the occasion has not been confirmed.

 An estimated 41,000 persons viewed six different fireworks displays in this area on the Fourth of July, according to reports received by The Times-Union from officials of sponsoring organizations. It is believed 10,000 watched the aerial display held during the stock car races at the county fairgrounds in Warsaw (5,000 in the race track grandstand and another 5,000 from cars, streets, walks, boats on Winona Lake, etc.).

 A group of Boy Scouts departed from Warsaw a few days ago to attend the “Jamboree” of 25,000 Boy Scouts spending two weeks at Washington, D.C. Those traveling to the “Jamboree” were: Scoutmaster Freeland Phillips, Argel Brallier, Warsaw; Justin Long, Mentone; John Ladd, Elvin Brallier, Warsaw; Bob Gast, Warsaw; Ralph Jackson, Winona Lake; and Wallace Bowen, Lagrange.
