    The Firecracker 5000 was held Saturday morning in Winona Lake. Fort Wayne's Jerry Williams Jr. was the men's winner, while Warsaw's Summer Boyd was the women's winner.

    Todd Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Nelson, has been named a 1983 United States National Award winner in physical education by the United States Achievement Academy.

Nelson was nominated for this national award by Jon Parker, physical education instructor at Mentone Junior High School.

    Sandra Brubaker, of Warsaw, and 15 other fetching girls have their eyes on the Miss Indiana title to be awarded July 12 at the Michigan City Summer Festival.

Sandra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Brubaker, Country Club Drive, was runner-up in the 1957 Miss Indiana contest.

    CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. - Two hundred twenty-seven students in the University of Illinois College of engineering have been named on the college honor roll for the second semester. Students with grades of 4 or better were announced today. Among the honor-roll students is Bernard M. Hess, North Lake Street, Warsaw. He is a senior, with an average of 4.29.
