10 Years Ago Junior Miss and Mister Kosciusko and Miss Teen Kosciusko were named recently at the Kosciusko County 4-H and community fair. Junior Miss Kosciusko is Kristen VanOsdol, 8, daughter of Ed and Vicki VanOsdol, Winona Lake. First runner-up in the Junior Miss category was Britta Jackson, 8, daughter of Mike and Melany Jackson, Warsaw. Second runner-up was Stefani Davis, 11, daughter of Todd and Paulette Davis, Warsaw. Junior Miss for 2001 was Stephanie Sammons. 25 Years Ago In a special observance of Father’s Day, several local service clubs participated in “Daddy’s Diaper Drive,” which was sponsored by Heartline Pregnancy Care and Counseling Center Inc. The drive was held in an effort to raise funds for purchasing diapers and infants supplies for Heartline clients. In its third year, Heartline has aided more than 240 women in crisis pregnancy situations. Lois Jump is Heartline president. 50 Years Ago “Like father, like son” is evidently the motto of the Richard (Dickie) Dean family, formerly of Warsaw and now of Hastings, Mich., as Dickie’s son, Alan, 13, was the winner recently of the Kalamazoo, Mich., Soap Box Derby. That will bring fond memories to many local residents who will remember it was Dickie who won the first Soap Box Derby in Warsaw in the 1930’s. 75 Years Ago A Fort Wayne cottage owner at Hoffman Lake intends to sell his summer cottage as under the state law a motor boat cannot run on a lake more than 10 miles an hour, unless the lake contains 325 acres or more. Hoffman Lake covers 320 acres. Recently, the owner of the Fort Wayne cottage operated a motor boat which was protested by fishermen. Inquiry at the sheriff’s office resulted in its being found that no motor boats can be run on that lake at a greater speed than 10 miles an hour.
