    Melanie Hobbs of Milford has been named an All-American Collegiate Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy.

The All-American Collegiate Award Program recognizes students who excel in academic disciplines.

    Stephanie Puckett, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Puckett, Warsaw, was crowned the 1982 Pioneer Days Queen by last year's queen, Tina Belcher.

The first runner-up was Lisa Howard, the daughter of Judy Grigbsy and Larry Howard, both of Warsaw.

    Warsaw's American Legion Post will hold a $140,000 mortgage burning celebration and ceremony July 27.

The new home of Post 49 was started in 1951 and dedicated May 24, 1952. Membership of the post, which was 962 members when occupying the new building, has now increased to more than 1,300.

    Dr. O.A. Newlin of Winona Lake received notice that he is the winner of one of the prizes in the Marvel Path Puzzle contest. The design of this puzzle is said to be one of the most intricate and difficult ever submitted to the public. The object is to show as high a total of numbers in checker board squares as possible.

The winner of the first prize made a total of 15,452, while Dr. Newlin was able to reach 15,429.
