This spring the Batelle Report was released regarding the local biomedical industry. The manufacturing firms here, the report said, form a true economic cluster. The skills required to work for the companies are gained through education and experience. A good aptitude for math serves an applicant well. Training in vocational classes look even better on a resume. A program for entry-level is being designed by Ivy Tech. Called Fast Track to Orthopedics, the course should be available this fall.

The Kosciusko County Fair officially opened with a large crowd at both the midway and at Warsaw Community High School where the 4-H king and queen were crowned. Cindy Davis and Doug Hathaway were named county queen and king during a special show and awards presentation in the WCHS auditorium. Both are 10-year 4-H members who have completed a variety of projects throughout their 4-H career. Cindy is the  daughter of John and Barbara Davis of Warsaw. Doug's parents are Perry and Linda Hathaway of Claypool.

Dr. Carl E. Shrader, of Warsaw, chairman of the newly formed Association for Community Recreation, explained to the 125 persons who attended a meeting at the Lincoln School some of the association's plans to establish a year-round city-township recreational program in Warsaw for both children and adults. The association is advocating establishment of a municipal recreation center or YMCA, with a full-time director.

Eah Smith, Charley Miller, Clarence Hartman and Jake Menzie will start on a week's trip through the East. They expect to spend some time at the Great Lakes Exposition at Cleveland, go through Quebec, Canada, to New York City, and other points of interest in the East.
