10 Years Ago Winona Lake artist Robert Hudson received two awards during the 28th annual "Ventures in Creativity Show" sponsored by the Fort Wayne Artists Guild. He took first place in the oil and acrylic category and third in mixed media. The exhibit will be on display at the Performing Arts Center in Fort Wayne through July 23. Crownover Jewelers, the oldest jewelry store in Warsaw, established in 1921, donated two tiaras to the 4-H Fair. They were awarded Monday to Miss Teen Kosciusko Charleena Ancil and Junior Miss Kosciusko Chassidy Bays. Tony Ciriello takes over duties as Syracuse town marshal beginning Aug. 8. He has been with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department since 1998. 25 Years Ago The foundation for the new Bob Evans Restaurant at Center Center Plaza in Warsaw is expected to be put in today, July 23. The original bright red facility was demolished last week after company officials determined that ground settling problems couldn't be remedied; work had stopped Nov. 16. The new facility is expected to be open by the first week of December. There are currently 23 Bob Evans Restaurants in Indiana. James Grill and sister, Jana, were the winners of the Pioneer Days raft race. Angie Garner and Jay Hicks were champions in the 5K race. Brent Chapman, 3, explores the new playground equipment at McKinley Park with his mother, Gail. 50 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ott passed through Warsaw this week on their way to the New York World's Fair. They are on their honeymoon. Leonard is originally from Tacoma, Wash. while bride Ingrid is a native of Berlin, Germany, having come to this country seven years ago. Married June 12, they started their journey the next day from Muscatine, Ia., traveling about eight hours a day, averaging 25 miles. Marion Acton, principal of Talma Junior High, is summer camp director of the Baptist Youth Camp on Crystal Lake, beginning July 5 for eight weeks. The ground and buildings were purchased from Mrs. Edgar Henderson in June 1949. Ten additional acres were purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Carl Burt in 1954. 75 Years Ago The pipe organ at the Centennial theatre has been sold to the United Brethren Church and is now being moved to the church.
