   Optimists from Warsaw clubs are making final preparations for the North Indiana District Conference Aug. 9 through 11, in Warsaw, with most of the meetings and activities centered around the Ramada Plaza Hotel. The local planning committee is headed by Paul Spite, Noon Optimists. Also serving on the committee are: Don Parker, Steve Martin and Carroll Moore, Noon Optimists; Mary Ellen Rudisel-Jordan, Morning Optimists: Daniel Rudisel, Warsaw Community High School Octagon Club; with former Optimist Mary Kittrell, Kosciusko County Convention and Visitors Bureau assisting.

   More than 115 children competed in the Pioneer Days Kiddie Tractor Pull sponsored by First National Bank of Warsaw. This was the most entries in the history of the tractor pulls. Winners of the five weight classes were: Mathew Gard, Eric DeFord, Adam Shull, Joshua Ogden, Caleb LeMasters and Aaron Silveus. All the children competing in the tractor pull received  blue ribbon for participating and the winners of the weight classes received a champion T-shirt.

   Mr. and Mrs. Warren E. Hygema and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bush have returned from a two-week cruise in their boats from Mackinac City, Mich., through the North Channel around Manitoulin Island. The Hygemas expect their son, Sterling, here about Aug. 20. He has been in the Far East on the USS Bellatrix, a refrigerated stores ship, whose homeport is San Francisco.

   Barbara Bryer’s fifth birthday anniversary was celebrated at a birthday party given Friday afternoon in her honor by her mother, Mrs. Marion Bryer. Those present were: Lucy Ann Minton, Bobby Minton, Eddie Bauer, Julia Ann Durham, Betty Jean Norris, Betty Jean Urshelman, Zoann Fike, Susanne Fike, Jackie Helvey, Jack Shoemaker, Joe Shoemaker, Susie Sigler, Marjorie Rea, Phyllis Baugher, Sandra Rice, Junior Bryer, Marcie Byrer, Tommy Konkle and Sylvan Konkle.
