    Butler University announced the dean's list for the spring semester of the 1998-99 academic year. Dean's list recipients have an average grade point average of 3.905 on a 4.0 scale. Perfect 4.0 averages were earned by 189 students.

Local students named to this list are: Kenneth Lawrance, North Webster, and Tracy Paczkowski, Andrew Plank and Sara Kirkpatrick, all of Warsaw.

    Kindergarten students at Syracuse Elementary will be able to remain in the school building next fall and keep within the guidelines of Primetime, Lakeland Community School Superintendent Don Arnold announced. The goal over the next four years, is an 18-1 student-teacher ratio in grades Kindergarten through third grade.

    Mrs. P.D. Parks, Winona Lake, entertained at a farewell dinner in honor of her son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. Larry McCallister, who left today for Los Angeles, Calif. Dr. McCallister will serve his internship at Los Angeles County hospital. His wife Patty will be on the nursing staff of a VA hospital.

    The appointment of Lloyd Rickel, to be made as postmaster of Mentone, will be only temporary, according to Jacob Kern, Franklin Township.

Kern, a member of the Kosciusko County Board of Review, has returned from Indianapolis, where he was a delegate to the Democratic state convention.
