10 Years Ago Christopher Conley, a 2002 graduate of Ball State University, has accepted a graduate fellowship at Mississippi State University to study for a master’s degree in history. This award consists of a $10,000 yearly stipend plus the cost of tuition. Carrie Anne Conley, also a 2002 graduate of Ball State, has accepted a graduate assistantship at Ball State to study for a master’s degree in linguistics. This award consists of a $7,500 yearly stipend plus the cost of tuition. They are the grandchildren of Mrs. Clyde Conley of Warsaw. 25 Years Ago Pete Bowman was the men’s overall winner and Beth Irvine was the first woman to cross the finish line Saturday in the annual two-mile Pioneer days Road Race. Bowman toured the course on downtown streets in 9:38.8, finishing ahead of runnerup Brian Zellner, who was clocked in 9:51:3. Warsaw’s Beth Irvine finished in a time of 12:42.6. 50 Years Ago The sky over Warsaw will be full of parachutes Saturday afternoon during the height of the Pioneer Days celebrations. Six crack sky divers of the 101st army Airborne Division will “hit the silk” at 3 p.m., diving from 10,000 feet aiming at the Warsaw football field. Several jumps will be made. Not more than three of the aerobatic jumpers will be in the air at the same time. 75 Years Ago The girls’ quartet of the United Brethren Church: the Misses Doris and Gladys Dunnuck, May Trumbull and Ruth Jordan, sang Sunday at the South Bend United Brethren Church and also broadcast from radio station WSBT, South Bend.
