Lake City Skiers are going to nationals! The team came in second place at Central Region competition July 14 in Rock Island, Ill. "This is the first time we've ever been to Division II Nationals," said Tracy Patrick, Lake City Skiers. For the team competition, the Lake City Skiers presented their full show "Li'l Abner." "The crowd," said Patrick, "really loved it."

Coming in first place at Central Region competition was the Lake City Skiers jump team. Members include Jake Wilson, Jeff Estes and Gary Hawblitzel. The jump team will compete in Division I and II at nationals.

Heather Kenney, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kenney, was crowned Pioneer Days Queen Friday night by last year's queen, Nicole Varney. The runner-up was Jennifer Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmitt, and second runner-up was Lisa Bair, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bair. Each of the girls will be freshmen next year. The penny-a-vote contest was sponsored by Delta Theta Tau Sorority.

The largest parade in the history of Bourbon jammed the fairgrounds for a huge send-off to the festivities. The carnival itself was delayed in arriving due to a flash flood in Kentucky, but workers were successful in hastily setting up their equipment. People taking in the fair were able to enjoy square and round dancing under the shelter house until after midnight. A rooster crowing contest will be held each day throughout the week with the winner to be announced Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. John Boyle, who enjoyed a three weeks' vacation through Canada and eastern United States, have returned.

Fred Shaffer, who recently started on an extensive hitch-hiking tour, got as far as Akron, Ohio, when he became quite ill. Consequently, he took a bus and returned home. Mr. Shaffer is feeling much better now, however.
