    NORTH WEBSTER - North Webster swore in a new police officer at its town council meeting.

Darrell Sopher, a North Webster native, joined the force after serving as a reserve officer for 1-1/2 years.

July 19 1982

    Mike Scott, Mentone, used two hands to hold the giant northern pike he pulled out of Crystal lake last week. Using an artificial crappie as bait, Scott landed a 17-pound, 6-ounce fish on 10-pound test line after a 20-minute battle. The fish measured 44 inches in length.

July 19 1957

    The excitement of Pioneer Days sales in downtown Warsaw, combined with the heat of the mid-morning sun, caused 16-year-old Lana Fawley, South Washington Street, to faint.

Lana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Fawley, collapsed near Schrader's furniture and appliance store at the corner of Lake and Center streets. She was taken to Murphy Medical Center as a precautionary measure but quickly recovered.

July 19 1932

    Announcement was made by Carl Cluen, Warsaw manager of the Indiana Co-operative packing house, that all eggs at the Warsaw plant will be graded and candled under federal inspection.

T.W. Heitz, of the federal department of agriculture, is here installing federal grades for eggs which are being handled for farmers by the local unit of the Indiana Dairy and Poultry Co-operative Inc.
