10 Years Ago High school students from across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, served the town of Winona Lake this summer by cleaning the grounds at the town hall one week. They also managed the games for the town’s Fourth of July celebration. The teens were part of a summer ministry called Operation Barnabas, which trains teens to serve others while they travel, offering encouragement for Grace Brethren churches. 25 Years Ago The CCAC soon to be a household acronym in the Warsaw area – apparently will become a reality when officials gather for an official announcement. Mayor Jeff Plank said the announcement of the new athletic field complex has been scheduled for July 29. In addition to the new site for the athletic fields – which is expected to be just west of Warsaw near R.R. Donnelley and Sons – plans for the Center Lake Park extension will be unveiled. The new park will be located north of the proposed downtown hotel. 50 Years Ago Miss Donna Colbert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Colbert, Akron, left by plane from Idlewild Airport in New York City for Paris, France, en route to her duties as an educational missionary in Sierra Leone, West Africa. While in Europe, Donna plans to spend several days visiting her brother, Mike, who is stationed with the U.S. Army at Frankfurt, Germany. 75 Years Ago Fire believed to have been caused by lightning completely destroyed two barns on the Chris Darr farm four miles east of Milford late Friday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Darr, who were milking at the time the lightning struck, were able to save all the cattle, but approximately 30 tons of hay stored in the barns was consumed.
