10 Years Ago Warsaw has been identified as a possible stop on a proposed high-speed passenger rail centered in Chicago. Assistant city planner Kristy Mehlberg presented an outline of the proposal during a recent city council meeting. The Indiana Department of Transportation is studying a rail network that would significantly reduce travel time to the Windy City. 25 Years Ago As he was growing up, Brendt Smith's father encouraged him to become a competitive swimmer and always stressed, "If you're going to start something, finish it." That intent will be utmost in Smith's thoughts during the upcoming Labor Day holiday when he attempts to swim across 51 of the lakes in Kosciusko County and establish a new world record. Smith, a 17-year-old Warsaw Community High School graduate and insurance agent, in conjunction with the American Cancer Society of Kosciusko County, will be accepting pledges for each of the lakes he successfully crosses Sept. 1. His participation is in memory of his father, John Smith, who died of cancer three years ago.
50 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Wise, Warsaw, returned recently from a two-week vacation in San Antonio, Texas. They made the trip with Fort Wayne friends, Mr. and Mrs. George Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Sittler, of this city, are on a vacation tour of the west. They plan to visit Denver and Colorado Springs, Colo. Sittler is vice president of the First National Bank.
75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herscner, of Warsaw, today departed on a four-week motor trip through western and Pacific Coast states. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Audrey Kinsey, of South Bend. The party will return through southern states, where they expected to spend several days attending the Texas centennial exposition at Dallas.
