Through Sports and Cultural Exchange International, 18 area girls will spend 10 days in Costa Rica and play six games of soccer, as well as share personal testimonies at halftime. The team consists of 16 girls from Warsaw Community High School and two from Wawasee High School. Coaching the team are Brent Wildman and Frank Courtois, WCHS, Wawasee assistant Gamal Hernandez, and former Indiana Wesleyan University player Casey Pepper. The team practiced at Grace College's Miller Field. “We’re sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through soccer,” Wildman says. The team members are collecting soccer balls and equipment to give to the Costa Rican children.

Warsaw’s Strawberry Festival will be held this weekend, June 11, says Judy Prichard, Main Street Development coordinator. “The Strawberry Festival was started six years ago at the Center Lake Pavilion as a way for local merchants to do something nice for the customers and the community,” says Sue Cole, local merchant. The festival was moved to the courthouse lawn four years ago. The entertainment for the 1988 festival includes a plane display by the Warsaw Pilots Association and an “adult-type” summer toy show featuring campers, boats and recreational vehicles in the First National Bank parking lot.
