   If Patrick Kavanaugh had his druthers, he’d shred the current three-year MasterWorks Festival contract to appear in town – and replace it with one binding the group here for the next 200 years. “We are in love with Winona Lake,” the artistic director said. “We’re all thinking of quitting our jobs, retiring and moving here”. The MasterWorks Festival, a division of the Christian Performing artists’ Fellowship, is a four-week training program for select-, college- and high school-age performing artists.

   The unveiling of the Hoosier Celebration ’88 road signs along Ind. 15 North and South, and U.S. 30E announces to everyone entering Warsaw that the city is an official HC ’88 community. Hardee’ Food Systems Inc. is an official sponsor of HC ’88. Locally, the celebration will be held in conjunction with Pioneer Days next year.

   Fourteen-year-old Steve Lewis, of Mentone, blurted out with a “Boy, that won’t be hard” when asked to come forth with a big smile immediately after winning the annual Soap Box Derby in Warsaw Saturday afternoon. It was the third time a Mentone boy has won the in the last four years and nets Steve a $500 savings bond and a chance to compete in the All American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, on Aug. 4. Steve, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lewis, defeated John Klinefelter Jr., of Etna Green, for the championship.

   Farmers in Warsaw reported that the storm on Wednesday did considerable damage in various “spots” of the county. In the vicinity of Dutchtown and Little Chapman Lake, corn has been flattened in the fields and a granary building was blown from its foundation. At the Braude farm north of Silver Lake, a 12 by 14 foot brooder house was turned over and over by the wind and 100 chickens were destroyed by the wind and rain.
