    Sara Espino, a classroom assistant with Kosciusko County Head Start, became a United States citizen during ceremonies at the Century Center in South Bend on July 3.

Espino came to the United States 12 years ago from Bogota, Colombia. She took citizenship classes at the Adult Education Center in Warsaw, passed a written test and was interviewed before her citizenship was approved.

July 17 1982

    Lakeland Christian Academy announces the addition of two new teachers for the 1982-83 school year. They are Mrs. Leslie Meeder as an English teacher and James Colman as the music instructor.


50 Years Ago

July 17 1957

    Eleven-year-old Cathy Widaman, Warsaw, was rewarded by the National Girl Scout Council for saving the life of 8-year-old Jimmy Hartle on April 20 of this year.

Cathy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Widaman, Country Club Drive, received a medal, presented by Mayor Jack Engle on behalf of the council, in a ceremony at the city hall.

75 Years Ago

July 17 1932

    Monkeys were not assessed in Kosciusko County, County Assessor Bert E. Dausman admitted today. Some township assessors claimed that a monkey was a fur-bearing animal, but after careful consideration the animals were not assessed.

Monkeys were found only in Wayne and Turkey Creek townships.
