10 Years Ago Forty-four kids piled out of a bus from Chicago, Ill., May 24 and visited the old Jail Museum in Warsaw. They also toured the Kosciusko County Courthouse, the Warsaw Cut Glass Factory and then went to Amish Acres in Nappanee. Jail Museum director Jean Jones said they were only expecting a handful of teen-agers and she and two tour guides blinked to see the crowd. They blinked again when they realized the kids were speaking a foreign language - Polish. They attend Sceinmetz High School, which is all Polish. 25 Years Ago Tiger Summer Baseball - Warsaw’s varsity summer baseball program recently completed its season with a 12-6 record. Team members included: Jeff Fitzgerald, Jamie Phillips, Pat DiRico, Ken Swain, Barry Jungels, Brad Szymanski. Also, Max Courtney, Clark Shepherd, Ron Davis, Troy Burgh, Noble Allman, Kim Long, Shawn Bradford. Head coach Jim Dermody, Paul Wiley, Steve Kordesh, Don Jones, Mike Wagoner Cary Hartman, and assistant coach Randy Sarber. 50 Years Ago Thirteen year old Karen Ringgenberg, Pierceton was to reign over today’s Soap Box Derby on the North Indiana Street hill, providing it could be held. Rain most of the morning threatened a postponement. Officials said if the Derby is postponed, it will be held Sunday. Karen was crowned “Derby Queen” Friday afternoon after competition with 52 other contestants aged 11 through 15. Karen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ringgenberg. 75 Years Ago Frank K. Tillman, son of R.A. Tillman of west of Warsaw and brother of Mrs. J.W. Slater, Warsaw, is on the U.S. Naval airplane carrier Lexington, which is searching for Mrs. Amelia Earhart Putnam and F.J. Noonan, lost flyers. Tillman is pharmacist’s mate aboard the big ship. He has had many year’s service in the navy.
