    Royalty for the 1998 installment of the Kosciusko County 4-H and Community Fair were crowned at Lakeview Middle School. They are Jill Wise, princess; Michelle Lamb, queen; Shad Krull, king: and Jeff Wise, prince.

    Chief Warrant Officer Lewis E. Collier has been promoted to CW4 in the Indiana National Guard. Collier is the youngest pilot to receive this rank in the state of Indiana.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collier, Pierceton.

July 12 1958

    Fourteen-year-old Jay Benson was the winner of the championship race of the Soap Box Derby in Warsaw. Jay won by a matter of inches and will compete next month in the All-American Derby at Akron, Ohio. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Benson, of Winona Lake.

Steve Shirey, 12, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen G. Shirey, of Mentone, was runner-up.

75 Years Ago

July 12 1933

    Syracuse boats of a family of eight all of whom play the saxophone. Members of the saxophone band are Mr. and Mrs. Walker White and their six children, Betty, Nancy, Walker Jr., Holbrook, Jack and Mary. The ages of the children are from 7 to 17 years of age. The Whites play every Sunday at the Episcopal Church at Vawter Park.
