The top awards at Lincoln Elementary School, Warsaw, were recently presented by Laura Ramsey, principal to Kelsey Alcom and Eric Wilka, top academic sixth-grade girl and boy; Bryan Wyatt and Aubree Walgamuth, were given the honor patrols award. Charlie Hunter, safety patrol supervisor and sixth-grade teacher; and Dave Wesner, sixth-grade teacher, also participated in the event.
Lakeland Christian Academy administrator Carl Haner announced the names of the 1984 recipients of the LCA Sixth-Grade Award. They are Julie Doron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Doron of Winona Lake, and Jeffrey Penner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Penner of Winona Lake. Both are graduates of the 1984 class of Warsaw Christian School.
Dr. Myron F. Boyd, Winona Lake, received the honorary degree of doctor of letters recently from Houghton College, Houghton, N. Y. Boyd, who delivered the baccalaureate address, was cited for establishing Youth for Christ in Seattle, Wash., and for his direction of the "Light and Life Hour," an international radio broadcast of the Free Methodist Church.
A pick-up pugball team composed of Warsaw players defeated the J.C. Penny Co. team of Wabash on the Liberty Mills diamond by a score of 3 to 2. Walter Evans was on the mound for Warsaw and pitched the finest game of his career, besting Fred Culver, Wabash star pitcher. The Warsaw line-up was: Smith, Jobe, Piper, Sutherlin, Mitto, Harris, Kinch, Michaels, Holbrook and Evans.
