10 Years Ago Jerry Chenault, regional extension agent with Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, and his wife, Michelle, visited Warsaw Biblical Gardens to gather information on developing gardens in their state. Saralee Levin provided background information on how the Gardens are built on the original site of Myer Levin Scrap Yards, in business for 90 years. A fountain was built on the site to honor Levin. Saralee wanted to do something meaningful with the area, and the Gardens were dedicated June 23, 1991. 4-H Shooting Sports Club challenged Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department to some fun at Kosko Conservation Inc. Deputy Gordon Nash fires at a target. 25 Years Ago Donnelley honors 25-year employees: Randy Hartman, Warsaw; Dean Hoover, Warsaw; Charlie McKibbin, Milford; John Veevaete, Bourbon. Grace College announced that Troy Burns, son of Ron and Neva Burns of Warsaw, had been named a recipient of the Leadership Merit Award for the 1990-91 school year. Martha Courtney takes over the reins at Combined Community Services July 16. She is currently employed at Zimmer and is a recent graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University. CCS became a reality six years ago with Joan Cusick as director. She will assist Courtney through the transitional period. Board president Michael Basden said the future looks bright. 50 Years Ago Charles Cleveland, Syracuse, present Kosciusko County Highway engineer, will be the next County Highway Supervisor, taking over for Ray Nine, who resigned June 1. Little League players helped city workers prepare the baseball diamond on East Market Street for the start of the season. The boys picked up rocks and stones as the tractor graded the diamond. Avery (Pat) Garber, parks superintendent, reports that more than 800 loads of dirt were required to fill and level the playing field. Jack Essenburg, advertising director of The Times-Union, has announced that Norman Poor, Sechrist Lake, has joined the advertising staff. 75 Years Ago Police are holding a 1930 Olds sedan, bearing license plates issued to James Tobey, of Elwood, which was found parked in the 100 block on North Washington Street. It is believed the car was stolen in Elwood and abandoned here.
